Our Core Offer
VLC offers therapeutic and caring alternative education for young people who are unable to access mainstream education. VLC works with children with SEN and EHCPs and those at risk of exclusion. Many of our students have been or are school refusers, and/or have attachment issues or trauma. For many of our students, they have been excluded from other specialist provisions, but at VLC we are committed to going the extra mile to try and support young people to get the education they deserve.
As a school we offer a broad and balanced curriculum taught 1-1 or in small groups, covering the national curriculum where possible. More details on our curriculum can be found here. Our holistic approach not only focuses on their academic learning, but also students social and emotional learning, preparing students for success at adulthood and supporting the wider family alongside other professionals. We also offer various forms of therapy and offsite activities to meet their needs. Some students join us on our school roll, while others attend part time or for a short period of time before transitioning to another school, or back into mainstream schools. This is our bread and butter; it's what we have been doing since 2014.
Our work is underpinned by our core values: care, perseverance, respect, helping others, integrity, belonging. Put simply, we exist to change young peoples’ lives through caring education.
