We believe each of our students is uniquely and wonderfully made, and as such will learn in a unique and individual way. We have students with a variety of complex and varying needs, and unique experiences of education and learning. Historically these needs may have formed barriers to their learning.
At VLC we believe in embracing these individual needs and learning styles, working alongside children to engage them in a way that is creative and bespoke to them. Our ultimate aim is to not only help children reach their full potential, but to help them reach beyond what they had previously thought possible.
Our motto for the curriculum is ‘stage not age’. This means our focus is on a child's ability level, rather than their year group. We believe that we should celebrate all success and recognise achievement continuously. As such the curriculum at VLC is not limited to ‘formalised learning’ and instead encompasses the whole student experience. We believe that progress is not limited to typical ‘academic’ progress. Whilst this is important for our students, we believe their social, emotional and mental health and personal development is of equal importance. As such, our holistic approach means we seek to meet the entire needs of the child; creatively, intellectually, spiritually, socially and emotionally.
